The Måneskin of Melbourne and Naarm’s Most Slept On

TITRATION have recently released their five song EP Another Day, and played an unbelievable gig at the Last Chance bar on the night of Good Friday. Their originals were played alongside party classics such as Style by Taylor Swift and I Write Sings Not Tragedies by Panic! at the Disco. No song was out of place, as the band made everything their own, suiting the dark but dancey vibes of the gig perfectly. The audience danced the whole set through and I was left thoroughly impressed.

The band fed off the energy in the room and I imagine it would have been great fun to play with such a responsive audience. I hope much of the audience that night would agree with me in saying we were all thrilled to have made the effort to go out that night. The gig made us feel alive, as we celebrated the joy of live music together.

Overall the gig left me wanting more. TITRATION gave just enough in their performance to grab my attention and ensure my attendance at their next gig, along with streaming their new EP over and over until then. There’s no doubt this band will continue making waves in the local scene. TITRATION are absolutely worth checking out on streaming services, as their music blends pop and rock styles. They are most similar to bands like Panic at the Disco, Måneskin and Palaye Royale, but there is likely something in their songs for everyone.

On the other hand, Dole Manchild released their new EP on the 3rd of April and had a launch gig at Stay Gold on April 6th to celebrate. I personally consider Dole a pretty big influence in the Melbourne scene, where they saw a gap in the market for surf rock and jumped on the opportunity. Their gigs are known for crowd surfing and strange mascot faces, however, it’s still necessary for one of their EP tracks to be titled ‘NAARM’S MOST SLEPT ON!’. The EP features four tracks, including the EP’s title ‘NATURAL BORN CONTRARIAN!’

Dole Manchild’s 2023 album WAR ON DOLE! was fantastic, but I can’t help but feel the new EP is a huge step up in their sound. The vocals are more detailed with multiple voices (and languages!) joining in on the tracks, giving Dole a real community feel that from what I can tell, they champion at their gigs. I was incredibly impressed with the first track on the EP, ‘CORPORATE ROCK!’ - its blend of genres provided the light and shade I need to keep me engaged all the way through a song.

The Easter weekend and holidays for many has been a busy one for the local music scene. Don’t forget that Radio Monash’s broadcast programming features both Melbourne and Student Music hours, so be sure to check the grid and tune in for your fix of new music coming out of this city.
